Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the new building of India’s Parliament on 10 December.

The new Parliament House is proposed to be built near the existing Parliament House. It will be a triangular building while the existing Parliament House is circular.

Why is the new parliament building being built ?

According to the govt and officers, thanks to the increasing work of Parliament, the requirement to create a replacement building was felt. The current Parliament House was inbuilt British era,that is concerning a hundred years (93 years old) and doesn’t have the area and facilities for contemporary facilities.

Apart from the new building of the Parliament, a Common Central Secretariat will be built under this project. There will be offices of ministries.

Also, the three-kilometer long Rajpath from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate will also be given a facelift.

According to the news agency PTI, there is also a possibility that the Prime Minister’s Office and his residence can be taken near South Block.

At the same time, the Vice President’s residence can be taken near North Block. Under the project, the Vice President’s current residence comes in the buildings to be demolished.

Also, North and South blocks are planned to be converted into museums.

According to PTI, the buildings of Udyog Bhavan, Krishi Bhavan and Shastri Bhavan can be demolished to make the central secretariat under the project.
